You can't make this stuff up....

So, yesterday, Carter was at the park with the girls and the sitter. They were apparently in the slide and Carter stopped right smack in the middle (one of the those covered, dark, twisty slides) and Kara and Olivia just ran right into him! They came home and I took a look at his arm and just knew that it wasn't good. Call it mother's intuition, or just a gut feeling, but the arm looked broken to me!!!

Carter and I got in the car and headed to pick up Jason, whose office is about 6 minutes away. On the way, a sweet little old lady pulled out right in front of us, and WHAM fender bender!!!! Who can get mad at this point, I was just in disbelief and shock. I was able to avoid hitting a very large sign that was off to the right, but she did indeed hit our right side pretty good! Police, accident report, the whole nine yards, all the while with a kid who might have a broken arm in the back. To be honest, the lady was a really nice woman who totally admitted it was her fault, so again, how mad can you get about it???

We FINALLY get to the ER, and Carter (who was amazingly calm) had x-rays taken. BROKEN, in 2 spots!!! Yikes!!! Here's where it gets dramatic, the guy comes in to put on the temporary cast, and Carter LOSES it! Now, remember, he's 4, but he's also 45" tall and weighs 53 pounds!!! It took 2 of us to hold him down, all the while he was screaming, "Go away doctor, I don't like you, go away!!!" So, we get that finished, and he cries for another 20 minutes while we wait for the discharge instructions. We take our promised trip to Toys R Us, to get the "Boo Boo Prize(s)". He picks out 2 things, one for each broken bone and we head home.

Kara and the girls had a cute "party" when we got home, complete with a sign, and cupcakes! Carter felt really badly about his behavior at the hospital, and he kept saying he was sorry for kicking, and screaming, and sorry he was so mad. Poor thing, he just didn't know what was going on, and I think that freaked him out! So, we have to get a permanent cast put on by an ortho, but I think he understands now that the cast is nothing to be afraid of. In fact, I heard him tell his sisters, "I like my new cast!"

Ah, all a day in the life....

Oi, tough day! You're quite correct - life is sometimes larger than fiction. Glad the little man is ok.

Poor Little Guy! How cute that he apologized for his hospital behavior.
Can't wait to hear how he does with the new cast.

It's a BOY thing. There's irrefutible evidence every day.

Hope he's feeling better :-)
